MLINI
in ŽUPA DUBROVAČKA, the DUBROVNIK RIVIERA
Mlini
A picturesque landscape,
nice sand beaches, water sources and
a small distance to Dubrovnik are major
assets of the local tourism. MLINI,
a small harbour on the northern coast
of the Zupa Bay, 8 km southeast of
Dubrovnik.
The brooks and streams which flow from
the nearby sources were once used for
water mills; today, the natural fall
of waters is used for a small hydro-electric
power plant. The upper part of the hamlet
(Trgoviste) lies along the main road.
In the vicinity of the beach are the
parish church of St. Hilarius from 1449
and the chapel of St. Roch (Rocco).
Close to the church, on the way toward
Cavtat, are the remains of Roman structures.
In the western part of the village is
the Stay summer mansion with the boat
storage ("orsan").
Župa dubrovačka, the Dubrovnik Riviera
Župa
dubrovačka stretches between Dubrovnik,
the old Ragusa in the west and Cavtat,
the ancient Epidaurus in the east, between
the settlements of Dubac and Plat. The
three islands Supetar, Mrkan and Bobara
anchored right in front of the bay protect
it from the open sea and from the north
the hilly slopes of the Upper Župa.
The rich diversity in such a narrow
area offers a memorable experience whether
you are after the turquiose limpid sea
and secluded coves or rich fields and
picturesque hamlets or simply a holiday.
Pretty tourist resorts are clustered
along the coast.
The old Illiryans,
Greeks and Romans recognized the values
and beauties of this region and so they
built their settlements there, and used
the abundant sources of water and fertile
soil while the sea offered them its
blessings. Even today the traces of
these ancient inhabitants can be seen
happily blended into present day life
within the genuine harmony of the sea
and the land.
The Bay of Župa readily
offers hospitality to all friends and
holiday makers. It is not easy to choose
the best way to experience the harmony
of this flora and fauna, this encounter
of lush vegetation and the blue sea
– whether by road or by sea, enjoying
great many coves and the blue and clear
sea. Can those arriving by air resist
the exciting contrast of the green and
blue magic?
